Ah Sonic one of my favourite gaming mascots of all time, I was a huge Sonic Fanboy to say the least when the Genesis/Megadrive versions of the game where at their prime, Sonic 1, 2 and 3 all great games.

Sonic CD was one of those games that was missed by many, purely because many lacked a Sega CD required to play this game.

Now many Sonic Retro fanboys like to claim this as the best Sonic game of them all, but I wonder what are they smoking when they claim this.

I'll start with the good, it has the classic Sonic look, controls, the style of a level can change depending on if you are in the past, present, or future. The game has a intro and ending cinematic which for the time was quite neat, and it has multiple endings.

The bad, the music no matter which you play US or JPN to me just isn't Sonic, the sound effects of Sonic Jumping is just what, they could have at least used the sound effect from Sonic 1. (history the game was being made before Sonic 2, but came out after it)

The ugly, the level design is a big WTF, I mean seriously it feels like they just randomly carved out the landscape, and placed as many springs, spikes and enemies in random positions as possible.

Not only that, Sonic is about speed but good luck trying to keep any speed in this game for more than 2 seconds, because you end up doing vertical movements more than you do horizontal.

The game isn't terrible but as far as I'm concerned it's the bastard child of Sonic games that should be ignored, also FYI I think the only reason people even were like omg Sonic CD was because they was so starved of Sonic 2D games they'd take any old ♥♥♥♥.

Thankfully Sega is making decent Sonic games now, so maybe this is one of those games that will stay burried.... forever preferably.
