The ultimate squad-based tactical combat simulation

The SWAT series are the follow up of Sierra's classic adventure game series Police Quest. The adventure game decreased in popularity by the mid-nineties and Jim Walls, the former series designer, left Sierra and was replaced by real-life SWAT founder Daryl F. Gates. After Gates released Open Season, Sierra searched out new genres for the popular police simulation series. SWAT (1995) and SWAT 2 (1998) were fifth and sixth games of Police Quest series, before the Police Quest title was dropped in the later SWAT games. SWAT3 (1999) was met by positive critical acclaim, attracting praise for its graphics and AI sophistication, and also spawned a successor, SWAT 4, released in April 2005, development and publishing being transferred to Irrational Games and Sierra owner Vivendi Universal. An expansion to SWAT 4, entitled SWAT 4: The Stetchkov Syndicate, was released on February 28, 2006. The current owner of the SWAT game brand is Activision Blizzard and there are no future plans to continue developing the SWAT series.
