Hey, you can't just come up with some weird name for a group (like Space Monk3y Mafia) and not know the reason for it. So here's our story (translated as best we can from monkey speak):

As you all know back in the mid 20th century there was this thing called the 'Space Race' when everyone was trying to get people into space and the moon. But before we could send people into space, there had to be a 'test dummy'. At first the creatures chosen were dogs, but they were not suited to human-shaped test spacecraft. So man looked to the obvious choice, monkeys.
So back in 1949 Albert II became the first monkey in space, launched by the United States of America, followed soon after by the French monkey, Felix. The Soviet Union later sent eight monkeys into space in the 1980s on Bion flights.
With all these monkeys floating around in space, did they just die? No! Did they give up? No! What really happened is two monkeys eventually linked up, and joined their satellites together. Eventually more and more monkeys joined them, and they even hooked up with a few (albeit dead) other animals. This did, however give them room to live in and much needed food.
They were able to live for around six months off the carbon dioxide recyclers built into their spacecraft, however they couldn't keep it up for long.
Thus came the decision to form the mafia. In order to protect their children, and ensure their descendants' survival, the monkeys decided to travel to a distant planet.
They took a look through the hubble telescope and picked out a new home planet a couple hundred (billion) years away. But the question remained.... How to get there? Some of the parent monkeys who were originally launched into space named themselves 'The Mafia' and said that they had an idea. Then they took their space suits and went out into space. They went to the opposite side of the collection of satellites as they wanted to send their craft, and pushed off towards Earth.
The noble monkeys who made this sacrifice are recognised by the names on their suits and also their name translated from monkey speak:

Utility II or The Giggler
Roamer or The Killer Kid
Demo or Fap Time (who needs to change his name)
Medic or TrailMix
Pocket or ryanr08
The force they used to take off pushed the assortment of spacecraft towards the planet they had chosen as their new home, but it also sent The Space Monk3y Mafia straight down to earth.
These monkeys formed the Space Monk3y Mafia, seeking to get revenge on the idiot russian (heavy) who sent them into space in the first place.
