Pirates Versus Boners

What's Next? & A Progress Report

So, it's been a few days since the last update for PVB, and rest assured, Peeping Boners and what not was not the last update ever. There are still more things I'd love to add in, and more than a few small things.

Right now though, I'm working on a new map for the gamemode. It's called Temple, and as one might expect, it's an ancient aztec temple filled with deadly traps and tricks. In this one, I'd like to put more emphasis on teamwork between Boners and holdfasts for Pirates.

Sunny Fort is interesting, but it focuses a hell of a lot more on pirates hiding and fending for themselves, which while it can be fun for a time, quickly gets stale as rounds get dragged out by pirates who simply refuse to let anyone else have fun. Temple will discourage hiding and running.

My next plans aren't going to be extremely complex to implement, but will greatly increase the complexity of the gamemode. The biggest thing is going to be more special Boners .

I've had a lot of suggestions for giving players the ability to select their weapons and such, which I've turned down as it would destroy the teamwork aspect of the gamemode. Not one player would selected a gun other than the musket, and the spear would likely never be used again. As a result, random chance is the only way to handle that.

With that said, I've considered another way to give the player more agency over their playstyle. Being able to select your special Boner . There are a lot of ways this could work, including qualifications on how you become your special Boner , what it does, and how it does it.

May main thought at this time is implementing a kill streak/Overwatch ultimate ability style system where completing specific tasks as a boner fills your 'calcium bar'. When its full, your next boner spawn will be as your selected special boner.

These special boners would be very different than the Raging Boner and Peeping Boner, they would have clear disadvantages to counter powerful abilities.

Now, to be honest, I only have a couple ideas for Special Boners. Namely a Micro Boner, and an Exploding Boner. So, if you'd like there to be more exotic Boners, I'd recommend you suggest some concepts for special Boners in the comments!

Other than that, I'd be appreciative if you gave me some general advice and critique on what could be changed about the gamemode as is.


Other than perhaps the new Special Boners, we will be seeing an implementation of some sort of Medic Pirate. Probably with a deployable rum keg. There will also be general updates to balance and bug fixing.
