One Minute to Midnight

The number of minutes before midnight – measuring the degree of nuclear, environmental, and technological threats to mankind – reflects how close humanity is to catastrophic destruction--the figurative midnight--and monitors the means humankind could use to obliterate itself. The clock hands have been set eighteen times since its initial start at seven minutes to midnight in 1947. Should the Doomsday Clock ever strike one minute to midnight, it is doubtful that the human race could recover in time to prevent total destruction.
