Hi all

Back from a long hiatus away from Vietcong. I'm going down memory lane and hoping to organise a reunion of sorts within the next 6 weeks.

In the meantime, I have pulled the following guide together for downloading and installing the game.

Download and installation

1. Download the game via P2P[www.thepiratebay.org] (2GB uncompressed) or directly[megaupload.nz] (1.42GB compressed .zip file).

2. Place the game at the following directory: C:\Program Files\Vietcong (create folder if need be).

3. If you downloaded via P2P above, then download VCStarter 1.70 BETA[megaupload.nz] tool. Rename your old Vietcong.exe to something like Vietcong_old.exe. Extract tool and place all files in the Vietcong folder/directory. Run VCStarter.exe first, then run vietcong.exe.

Setup

The GameSpy MasterServer, which was used to populate the in-game internet server list, was disestablished. To fix this, you need to point your computer to the QTracker MasterServer instead of the old GameSpy server. This will allow you to populate the in-game server list again.

4. Download this file[www.qtracker.com]. Unzip the file.

5. Navigate to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and rename "hosts" file to "hosts_old".

6. Drag the "hosts" file downloaded at step 4, to the directory at step 5.

If all servers are not appearing on the server list in-game, you can use the following links to see alternative server lists:

7. Find a server using the above link. Start game > Multiplayer > Direct connection > enter the IP address and port of the server and hit connect.

I will keep this server up throughout the day, with minimal downtime. I encourage you all to join and play. If you need the admin password to change map etc, please let me know.
