It was never made for Gaming

The keyboard was designed to allow you to type, not game. Gaming on a computer was never even conceived when the keyboard layout was designed. Heck, even COMPUTERS weren't conceived when the keyboard layout was designed. It's an archaic layout that hasn't been changed since Manual Typewriters were first standardized.

Just because it's a PC game doesn't mean you should have to use a keyboard to play. It's uncomfortable to use and completely devoid of ergenomics. Left hand mouse users can also benefit from using a reversable gamepad.

This group is dedicated to finding games that can be played just as well or better without the Keyboard, either by using the mouse by itself, a gamepad, or a gamepad and mouse together, and then playing them that way. It would be great if we could petition Developers to include support for gamepads (or gamepad and mouse combinations for games that require aiming or pointing) but the group would have to be a lot bigger before it could be taken seriously.

FPS have long been held up as proof of KB+mouse controlls over gamepad, but the advantage the keyboard gives is only in quantity of buttons for macros, the mouse is where the primary advantage in control stems from. 90% of the time, the keyboard buttons can be mapped to a controller for a more natural and comfortable playstyle, or could be if the developers offered support for mapping keybindings to a controller instead of only to a keyboard.

What Gamepad (and/or Mouse) do you use?

I personally use a Playstation 2 controller with a USB adapter. My mouse is a microsoft 5 button laser mouse that i got from Newegg.com

the extra 5 buttons are important, as they ensure that any game that I can play using a dual analog controller can be mapped to the mouse without any loss of button options.

How about other people? Do you use adapters? 360 controllers? or just a straight generic PC USB controller?

take por example ALIEN SAWRM, i love to play that WITH A CONTROLLER!!!! i simply can´t move and shoot and the same time and worry for more button on the keyboard...you know, i have 2 right arms....

i have 2 left arms so I CAN NOT PLAY GAMES WITH THE KEYBOARD ... before was a little troublesome map buttons with gamepads and such but now you can just plug the 360 controller , so why it is so hard support controller on fps games? i dunno , i rly dunno ...

I think the reason why games on the PC don't always support gamepad controls is because the mouse and keyboard is standard on all PCs. When you make a game for the consoles you are guaranteed they will have gamepads. For the PC it's the Mouse/KB. So they have to develop the game to support the native controller type of the system.

Cool group. Yeah, totally agree with you. It's so much more chill just sitting back and playing with a gamepad, rather than with your face to the monitor and sore wrists.
