"Who Is Idi Amin?"

"And with our recent reforms, we expect that the entire roleplaying community shall, in the long term, be subordinated to our glorious organisation, the Association of World Nations!" thundered the voice of the great tyrant Azeron from his platform at the end of the room. The assembled dinner guests all had their faces turned to watch this magnificent being, whose words were taken as gospel. He was in fact a fairly unremarkable man, but he had risen from nothing to become the face of what they all felt and thought - that roleplay needed order. That roleplay needed discipline. It needed authority, harmony...

"Roleplay needs order! Roleplay need discipline! Roleplay needs authority! And above all, roleplay needs harmony!"

"Harmony..." the guests began to murmur. "Harmony..."

"Harmony!" Azeron barked once more. "When we are in harmony, roleplay becomes beautiful. When we are in harmony, roleplaying is worth roleplaying! Every thought, every feeling, every impulse, all must be subordinated to the irresistable urge, the instinct, to obey! Obedience is a cardinal virtue, and it must be inculcated in these young ones before it is too late! Without our guidance, they cannot exist! Without our careful paternalism and good judgement, they will not have the good sense to build anything on their own. For we all know that a roleplayer unguided and unlearned is like a feral child. He will wonder off on his own, get himself trapped in alleyways and byways and highways, be whisked off by strangers, encounter devils and darkness! And we cannot allow the darkness to take over roleplay!"

The audience murmured in approval.

"Remember, we are a collective! No one must veer off on a tangent. No one must seek to fulfil his own base, disgusting, selfish desires! No! We are one! We are no bourgeois, liberal, individualist regime! We are a paternalistic but progressive society, seeking to guide these young one into a new era - an era in which the elite shall not be afraid to rule, with an iron fist!"

At this cheers came up from the audience. Many stood and clapped with frightening alacrity.

"For when we are scattered and divided, when are atomised and individualised, when we are isolated and estranged, then each roleplayer becomes a beast, and the war of all against all begins! We must have one leader, one anointed, heroic being, to unite us all and lead us to glory! We can achieve nothing on our own, but roleplay, controlled, carefully guided, regulated and led by the wise men of this community can and shall prosper! But we must be careful not allow those...subversive, disruptive elements to rock the boat. We must not tolerate any of this nonsense called freedom of speech or freedom of association. Those who stray off the right path and associate with criminals and terrorists, with thugs and with dissidents, people like Idi Amin....deserve the fulll punishment! We shall hunt them down like stay dogs, we shall ostracise, we shall chase down, we shall ban, we shall kick, from group to group, from tier to tier, until we have rid all of roleplay of the impurities!"

At this the greatest cheer of the night arose from the crowd, which rose up and clapped and cheered until their throats were sore, their eyes watered and their hands were on fire.

"We shall burn them all in the fire of the collective! We shall crush them in the fist of the elite! We shall pick them up and we will throw them away like flies! And the community will be all ours! No opposition will have the temerity to face us! No one will challenge this new, glorious age of the Association of World Nations!"

The howls and cheers at the peroration could be heard reverberating across the night sky. Passers-by stopped to listen to the commotion. A new dawn was breaking over RP. And it was not good.
