History of House Armstrong

Pre Establishment of the Household

Originating from the North, the early members of House Armstrong began as Knights to House Bolton. Ser Bron, the founder of the House, served as a Bolton Bannermen under his father, Brinden, who was the Captain of Lord Ronard Bolton. Bron was the strongest man Lord Bolton had ever seen so he rewarded Bron by giving him a knighthood and placing him in his household guard. Some say he was so strong he could lift a horse. As Captain of the Guard, Brinden was tasked with repelling wildling invaders that had been raiding throughout Bolton territory. Lord Ronard dispatched Brinden to prevent the wildlings from pillaging villages in the Lonely Hills. However, when he arrived the wildlings had slaughtered everyone in the village. Everything but the grass had been burned and the wildlings could be seen running from the scene. Brinden rode them down, leaving none alive. After the wildlings were finished off he had his men extinguish the fire and burn the dead. Upon his return to the Dreadfort, Lord Ronard seized Brinden and made Bron watch as his father was flayed. Furious, Bron cut down the guards and slayed Lord Ronard in his bed. Bron fled to Winterfell with his wife Railey where Lord Cregan Stark took them refuge.

Lord Cregan knew Old Ronard Bolton was on the edge of madness so he forgave Bron on the condition that he would join his army headed south to aid Rhaenyra Targaryen in The Dance of Dragons. Although the Northmen arrived just late of the war, the Boy-King Aegon III Targaryen named Lord Cregan Stark as Hand of the King. Cregan acted for a day, during which he arrested twenty-two men for the murder of Aegon II. Bron tracked down the murders and returned to Cregan with Ser Gyles Belgrave of the Kingsguard. Bron had subdued Ser Gyles and carried the unconscious knight in his arms back to the Red Keep. Cregan praised Bron for his strength and named him Ser Bron the Armstrong. Lord Stark resigned the following day and returned to the North along with Bron. When Cregan reached Winterfell, Bron swore fealty to Lord Stark and was awarded with the hilly lands North of The Rills. Thus establishing the House of Armstrong in 131 AC.
