1. Large file counts; a save folder may only be 5 MB in filesize, but could be several hundred files
2. Large filesizes; files with sizes in the hundreds--or thousands--of megabytes
3. Anti-virus / Security software; Windows Defender is a good example as it often wants to scan every read and write action performed
There's not much we can do about this, however the 4.x branch does seem a little more resilient this these issues.
Unfortunately, the 4.x branch is under heavy development and so probably shouldn't be used as your primary backup software.
The first point may be the correct one. I recently started a new save in Subnautica. The folder isn't large, but each save folder for the game comprises over a 1000 small files.
The gsba file is around 50Mb, which puts it around 20th in the list of 100+ gsba files generated for the backup.
