Yes, the data that GSM backs up is a one-to-one copy of what is on your system.
GSM doesn't make any alterations to data it backs up, only the archive that stores said data.

The gsba files generated are fundamentally 7z archives with a different file extension.
This means you can open them in your archiving solution of choice (7zip, WinZip, WinRAR, etc.).

Please be aware that this project doesn't support Linux and as such there will be no way for this project to help you find the path(s) to restore your backed up data to.

Close GameSave Manager (if it's already running) and navigate to where you downloaded the GSDU file.
You should now notice the file has an "icon". That's the file association in effect; double-click it to automatically open it within GSM.

The file you've downloaded from the above link needs to be ran through GameSave Manager to apply.
You can do this by setting up the File Associations or by manually executing the /update command on the file. For example:

From there, you'll be presented with a complete listing of current rulesets. Simply "tick" what you'd like GSM to skip/ignore and close the dialog.
Finally, run GSM as normal.

I assume this is in reference to the "Sonic Unleashed Recomp" title. Correct?

You're confusing file size with file count.
Scanning thousands of files, each at 1 KB in size, would take far longer to achieve than scanning a single 10 MB file.

For the record, GameSave Manager is searching two potential locations...
1. "...\mlc01\usr\save\00050000" (relative to the path defined in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\discord-460807638964371468\DefaultIcon\(Default)")
2. "...\AppData\Roaming\Cemu\mlc01"

If either of these directories have a large file count (read: not size!), then that is why it's hanging.
As I previously mentioned in your other thread--which you deleted around the time you made this thread--all "work" in GSM 3x is performed within the "UI Thread". This means that any interaction with the UI / Window can and will cause hangups for the program.

There's two "fixes" available to you:
1. Opt to skip the troublesome entries (via the aforementioned "/ignore" commandline)
2. Start using the 4x Prototype available through the project's Discord server (note: this is an incomplete build, likely with bugs and doesn't receive 'Definition Updates')

I'd imagine this is due to a large file count.
You can configure GameSave Manager to skip troublesome entries via the "/ignore" commandline.
