♉ The Optimates ♉

Background

The Optimates ("Best Men," singular optimas; also known as boni, "Good Men") were the traditionalist majority of the late Roman Republic. They wished to limit the power of the popular assemblies and the Tribune of the Plebs, and to extend the power of the Senate, which was viewed as more dedicated to the interests of the aristocrats who held the reins of power. In particular, they were concerned with the rise of individual generals who, backed by the tribunate, the assemblies and their own soldiers, could shift power from the Senate and aristocracy. Many members of this faction were so classified because they used the backing of the aristocracy and the senate to achieve personal goals, not necessarily because they favored the aristocracy over the lower classes. Similarly, the Populares did not necessarily champion the lower classes, but often used their support to achieve personal goals.

As the horizon approaches, our enemies destroy our lands, as silly men with swords didn’t understand the complexity of political delegation. Not just foreign ends, but also domestic. No food, no guards, no services to the fair citizen. But worry not for the fates are not always correct. We the Optimates are here to protect our beautiful citizens from misfortune! Oh worry not fair people, for the mighty Senate will protect you.

Consular sign ups & elections are coming

Ave Romani and fellow Optimates!

The sign ups for the Consul position are here, which means the elections are not far away. If you have no idea what this position is, here's an explanation:

- The office of Consul is the highest elected office in the Government of the Roman Republic and is recruited from the ranks of Senators. They act as the representative heads of the Senate, advising the King as to the state and opinions of the Senate. The two Consuls rule together by mutual consensus, meaning that only when they agree with each other can they exercise the authority given to them and their office. Two Consuls are elected together, to serve for a one-month term. Each Consul is given veto power over their colleague and the officials are to alternate every two weeks in who takes precedence. A potential candidate for the rank of Consul will have to of already served a term in the Roman Senate before attempting to run for the Consulship. The King cannot merely appoint someone to this office.

Please make sure you sign up, there are 2(two) consul positions and it's best for Rome that these are held by us!
