New Eden Station is now Live!

Hello again,

To tell you all the truth, we actually went live a couple days ago; I've simply been too busy to write out another announcement post.

I encourage all of you to stop by! We're only 4 days old, and last evening at around 7 PM Eastern time we capped out at twenty players! I'd say that's pretty good for being only 4 days old.

Development is a slow but ongoing process, and we're working on improving not only the code, but the supporting elements as well: things like the website, the forums, the Discord, etc; we're aiming to achieve a real holistic experience.

Speaking of Discord, we now have a Discord server. Traffic is pretty light since it was literally just created, but administrative communications are being migrated there shortly, so there will always be at least somebody on. Also, you can expect some nifty tools like automated messages that inform you about round start, round end, and the like. You can join by clicking here.[discord.gg]

Also, important note: Text to speech is quite functional. Thanks to all of you who joined the test server to help stress the system and root out the bugs. Perfecting it is still an ongoing process, but as of now it's very good. The only unfortunate downside is that the server will occasionally lose text to speech, or even all sound: this is due to a limitation of virtual operating systems, and there's literally nothing I can do short of buying a dedicated server. Thankfully text to speech plays nice in the sandbox most of the time, and that bug seems pretty rare. Overall, great experience and everyone is loving the feature.

Hey there,

Well, it's been awhile for a lot of us. I'm sure quite a few of us don't even play Space Station 13 anymore. For those that do, I've got a little announcement handy.

Over the past couple weeks, I've been inflicted with a rather depressing ailment: SS13-nostalgia. That feeling that goes away for a time but never seems to leave for good; the unexplained draw that you feel to return to the game. We've all felt it. I know you all know what I'm talking about.

I expressed these feelings to some old friends from Eden, and guess what: they convinced me to do a reboot. Not only did they convince me to do a reboot, but to go all-in as well. This is all or nothing.

I can already hear the groans: "Dre, you've tried this before. Let Eden die in peace, stop thrashing it's corpse around." I'm not gonna debate you on that one; there has been corpse thrashing in the past. There were poor administrative choices. There were poor decisions. There was a consistent record of people biting off more than they could chew. Also, it doesn't help when your administration doesn't even know what kind of roleplay it wants to enforce.

Well, I'm here to correct those past mistakes, and I'm asking you to give Eden a shot. I'm gonna provide you with everything that's been done so far: all the links I'll shell out will be a lot better in proving anything to you than me blathering on here.

Some priority announcements though:
1. New voices. 100% functional. Not 97% functional. 100%. You'll find some bugs, but only if you purposefully feed the engine stuff like hashtags and asterisks. Okay, I actually lied about "100%", since voices aren't transmitted over radios yet. But I have that fix and a bunch of other improvements all lined up and ready to be completed as soon as I get back from Uni. Oh, and the new voices can SING.
2. In keeping with New Eden tradition, this new server will be LIGHT RP. I can hear the collective gasp. "What? Dre the RP Nazi doing light rp?" Yep. Light RP. I recognize that Eden was at its prime when I didn't ♥♥♥♥ with roleplaying standards. That being said, I do still love heavy roleplay, and I encourage people to roleplay on the server; it just simply won't be a requirement.
