Dopp and SourceOP

Greetings fellow friends of Dopp!!

I had a conversation last night with ol' Dopp. We both (including Meical), would love to have the old SOP crew back, even if only every once in a while. Dopp is an admin for SOP and he told me "the only admins left around are myself, Butane, and Skyrider (which whatever, he's a 2fort reg), I know that the admin "issues" dont exist anymore". He also said this, "I just wish everyone would go back to SOP, like the old days, since the admins there (me) don't suck, we have some modicum of control, and everyone had good pings".

Those things being said, Dopp and I (and Meical) were wondering if people(specifically old SOP players) would be willing to go back and play there once i a while. I know a few people have moved on and probably no longer play TF2 anymore, so we probably won't get them.

Unfotunately the reaminder of us that still play TF2 are now scattered. We would love to see these old timers come back to SOP to play. We all had tremendous fun there and let's be honest, we had one hell of a community. It would be nice if we could all get back together occasionally.

Even before talking to Dopp, Meical and I were talking about how cool it would be to have the SOP players back in full, or as full as it can be.

As I told Dopp last night, all we can do is ask the people. If no one ever shows, then it is what it is. But if you miss the fun we all used to have, then please try! It can be like it used to be, even if it's only a couple of hours at a time.

So, would you kids be willing to play on SOP again?

Once Valve drops the Halloween event, the server will be going to event maps only for the period of the event. Why? Won't that take away the server from regular use? Nope, since it's not being used.

Last nights event went well up until the point 2 hours after people started joining the server and I left to get something to eat. Within 20 minutes the server was empty. I'm considering the event a failure for that reason.

The server has been completely empty for the past week save for last nights 2.5 hours (you can check too, check out the stats page and the pretty graphs). Please describe what you'd like to see so that the server isn't sitting empty. Remember, unless your idea is a way to get players outside of quickplay, things like custom maps and 'nocrits' aren't helping.

as one that really wanted to see this server take off and grow, i am saddened, but at this point, you are correct to shut it down.

i am sorry for Dopp and all his efforts, but i guess the "community" has spoken (well to be fair, they rarely spoke at all and if they did, it was of little to no help) and it seems like it's better to perform a mercy killing than to let it struggle on life-support.

Due to a complete failure of an expirement, the server will be shutting down sometime in December. It's not worth the time or money or heartache to keep an empty server open for a group that doesn't want it, and openly rejects it through innaction.
I have no aspirations of creating a community from scratch to compete with other communities out there to feed my ego. This was meant to be a place for Valve1 regulars to come back together and grow a new community out of that. That was entirely too idealistic of myself and the others that pushed for this to happen. The realistic fact is the Valve1 community died a year ago, and everyone has moved on to new games or new (less competitive/competent) servers.
My current hope is SOP evolves and brings in a fresh community. We'll see what happens.

I want to help, but my hatred of badwater is stronger than my desire to start the server.

There is also the subject of boredom. I think that I speak for everyone sitting in my chair when I say "ned alltalk." It just helps to lift my spirits. Of course, I can't see how I could speak for others.

I'll simply sneer at the pommy bastards that wish to counter the idea of having alltalk on.
