The Definitive Digital Virtual Electronic Cinemabox

Three years ago, Cereal Box Cinema was a much different place. It was simply a server running the vanilla cinema gamemode, on the vanilla map cinema_theatron, and with an eerily absent administrator. It was a simpler time.

Since I (Swamp) started running the server in March of 2015, I have spent countless hours developing content and coding for it, gaining vast experience with tools such as Lua, PHP, and the Hammer Editor. With a few exceptions, all of the unique content on Cereal Box Cinema today was done by me, and I hope to continue to work on this content in the future.

I’ve had a lot of fun working and playing on the server over the past 2 years, and during this time it has changed quite noticeably - in my opinion, for the better. However, the server today offers a vastly different experience than what has attracted people in the past, and after much consideration, I’ve decided that it no longer fits the name “Cereal Box Cinema”.

On January 1, 2017, the server content we know today will be relaunched as a new community called Swamp Cinema (you will still have all your points, etc. don’t worry). For this new community, we will be working over the next month to create a totally new website, significant map update, and we might even finally add some chatbox emotes!

On the same day, I will also recreate CBC as a clone of the simple server that existed in 2013. This will be the final chapter in the story of Cereal Box Cinema.
