Sharp edges aren't used by the importer. It instead imports normals exactly as they are defined in the source file. You can remove this data from Properties > Data > Geometry Data.

This will obviously not work.

Will be fixed in the next release.

I've pushed a branch which integrates Action Slots into the import and export process. It's a core change to the addon so I'd appreciate some testing before I release it.

Not sure about Python or Git? Download the code[github.com] and copy the io_scene_valvesource folder to %appdata%\Blender Foundation\Blender\4.4\scripts\addons.

Hash is a comment token. I should be able to fix this.

The data is imported, but there is a breaking API change which leaves the object unanimated. The missing step can be performed manually by choosing the "Legacy Slot" at this point in the Blender UI.
