Automatic For The People

Greetings my friends...

Jimer Lins here (of "Source Filmmaker Tip of the Day" fame).

Although I go by "Jack Burton" on Steam these days, I'm still the same guy, and I have a project I'd like your help with, if you're interested.

Overview

I have had a video series in mind for a couple of years now, and I have a very strong vision for it. However, in order to realize that vision, I need help, and a lot of it.

This group exists to coordinate our efforts to produce and create a video series in a gritty film noir set in the 1940s or 1950s. Think lots of brushed steel, glass, fedoras and guns.

In order to realize this vision, we need people to help in the following areas.

* Mapmakers - We need sets for the animation, and that means maps. They don't have to be complete- just like a movie set, you only need the parts you actually have in the camera's field of view- but they will have to be highly detailed and gorgeous.

* Propmakers/Modelers- We need people to make props. We won't be relying on Valve assets for this project, as tehy don't fit the visual style. We will not use any existing 3rd-party props.

* Character Modelers, Artists, Riggers - We need fully rigged models for the cast of characters in the animation. This means developing the models from scratch, including rigging.

* Script Writers and Editors - We will need professional scripts for the animators to work with. We have some basic concepts to start with, and there will be a greater need for good writers as the series moves forward.

* Animators and Post-Production - Of course we'll need animators who can work in Source Filmmaker. We need experts in SFM animation who can take direction from a script and the director to achieve a vision.

The Timeframe

This project will take a good amount of time to ramp up. It is expected that the development time for making sets, props and character models could be as long as a year or more. Once we have a good store of assets in place, we will identify a production schedule and look at how to work future assets into the production pipeline (for example, if a new character was to be added).

Some Notes

This project is based on existing IP. The creators of the original IP could shut it down anytime they want, but they have been receptive to such efforts in the past. However, we will NOT be making money at this. Period. No videos will not be monetized, nor will there be any attempt to make money directly from the production or its assets.
