How to keep updated with events via your smartphone

Me personally, I can't remember ♥♥♥♥ if it's not scheduled on my phone and it's alerting me to remind me of what I have going on.

So with that in mind, in addition to events being posted to the Steam Group, we have a calendar subscription that you can use on your smartphone to stay in the loop, and should you enable it, alert you when the event is about to start or is starting in case it slips your mind.

On iPhone, third party browsers may not handle the iOS Calendar integration correctly so if this link doesn't automatically ask you to subscribe, open the link in Safari and you'll be good to go. They'll download and sync to your phone, but sadly won't display notifiactions. But there's a way to fix that below.

Android users, you should have 0 issues. It's all Google, afterall.

Blackberry users, my condolences.

By default, the calendar should display an alert before the event starts on Android phones and users of the Google Calendar App on iOS.

Apple's built in Calendar app seems to ignore these alerts (including iOS 10), so you need to enable notifications yourself for each event but the good news is that it only takes a few taps of the finger, and you only need to do it once for repeating events and it'll propagate to the rest.

On iOS, you can do this for the practices by simply selecting each day we have one (Tues, Thurs, Sun) once, tapping Add alert at the bottom, then when it asks if you want this alert applied to all repeating events, answer Yes. That will add this alert to all those repeating events. But when something new gets added that isn't repeating (like the World Cup or a DGL match), you'll need to add an alert for that one specific event. But that's only if you want an alert for it, it will still automatically show on your schedule when you drag down at the top of your screen where it shows upcoming events. It syncs in the background and stuff even when you're not using the Calendar app.

Android users should automatically recieve a notification an hour before the event. But for the first event, keep an eye out just to make sure it works or if you need to manually enable them like iOS users do. I don't have another phone to test so if someone can report back, that would be neat.

After you're subscribed to the calendar, it automatically updates itself every hour (by default) and when you open your Calendar app. So when new events are added, they are sync'd right to your phone ezpz.

If for any reason you're an iPhone user and you don't have a Google account of any kind (GMail, YouTube, etc.) I can setup an iCloud version of this calendar as well. But while Mimz and I both have access to the Google Calendar and can update it, only I will be able to edit the iCloud version since I'm the one with an iPhone. So I'd recommend just grabbing a GMail account. Hell, you can add it to your phone just for the Calendar and not even enable it in the Mail app if you don't wanna see it there.

I'm unsure of the Mobile Steam app's ability to notify people of group events. I think we all know how well it handles chat so it's one of those known unknowns. Or is it a unknown known? I don't know. Bottom line is the Steam app is incomplete and unreliable so I personally don't trust it when it comes to mobile devices so that's where the mobile calendar comes in.
