Roads had been barricaded to disallow mounted Cossacks to enter the city. Certain buildings, Such as the steel mill of the city were turned into a fortress and a command center for the city militia. Several hours of attempts to enter the city met with stiff resistance and the Russian troops still loyal to the government started using artillery and mortar fire. Russian troops approached Plock and stormed it within a day from Warsaw. Only resistance came from lone gunmen and snipers around the city.
