95th rifles (greenjackets) are the one of the British rifle regiments of the 1800's and 1900's serving in the war against the french empire. under the command of the british general john moor befor his death in the retreat from spain, then sir aurthur wealsly who later became lord wellington after his victory at talavera in spain. the 95th rifles are showed in itv's television sharpe, taken from the sharpe siries books written by bernard cornwell. at the time of the portugal and spainish campagin the 95th rifles used the baker rifle which had much longer range then the standard brown mess musket handed out to the line troops. the rifles of great britain were the first regiments in the world to use thier uniforms to help hide them, so came the name "greenjackets" which could hide the units. the french skirmishers, which used the musket because the french thought the rifle to be a womans gun. soon learned that they didnt stand much chance against rifles and so would move back in to the advancing french collum, designed to smash through the british lines. the problem with collum was only the front ranks could fire mean all the mass of men in the center and rear couldnt shoot at all. and so the british line would break the collum with massed vollys. as britain was the only nation to train the troops with real amunition they got use to the crack of musket shot and the sound of massed vollys, but other nations such as spain who after being allied with france untill the loss at sea against nelson who lost his life in the battle aboard H.M.S victory. didnt have much of an army because as soon as they declard war on france. the french marched in to spain crushing its armys and captureing it all. but at the end of it all britain allied with portugal and spain fought back and soon napoleon empoer of france was defeated.

but soon after his defeat he came back again to the battle of waterloo, were lord wellington lead the forces of prussia, the netherlands and great britain to victory.
