Earth in the near future is plagued by a violent war that inevitably ends with the use of nuclear weapons. Nuclear fallout renders the Earth nearly inhospitable. Having the proper technology, humanity leaves Earth and begins colonizing other planets or satellites like the moon. Humans begin to survey other systems in space for other habitable planets, leading the search are several organizations, including companies like USR.

The Foundation colonization fleet first reached K3. The planet was deemed uninhabitable due to hazardous dust and lightning storms, so the Foundation chose to deploy a prefabricated space station in its orbit to manage automated facilities on the surface.

Orbital facilities began to grow around K3 in the following years, the Foundation made good profits from the production of energy on K3, which was sold to ships which passed through the system. Shipbuilding also becomes an industry of K3 thanks to that it becomes the largest of its kind outside of Earth.

K3 is a hellish world, only recently made remotely habitable. Much of the planet is covered by rocky terrain and dominating canyons with some arctic-like areas; there are even oases of sorts, in the form of hostile jungles teeming with dangerous predators. K3 is rich in natural resources and minerals, mainly Plasma. Most settlements are centered around mining operations, the largest city was Rektaur, though it bore more resemblance to a very large slum as opposed to a sprawling city. Most of the planet's economy and resources were centered into building and maintaining Foundation large armies and a fleet for interstellar conquest, leaving little funds for the improvement of the general population's well-being, hence the slums, dismal civilian infrastructure, and a visible lack of luxuries on K3.

The structure of The Foundation is hierarchical, shaped much like military orders of ages past (e.g. Knights Templar), with the leader of the Foundation, who is aided by the Inner Circle, his most trusted lieutenants, and commanders. The hierarchy then branches out as each Inner Circle commander has his subordinates, who in turn command others, eventually arriving at the bottom, where the rank-and-file members are.
Mercenaries, Pirates and other species are part of the structure when its needed.

The military is above all the most prized element of The Foundation Empire. Their goal is to spread their influence, colonize more worlds and use the new resources on investigation developing their own technology.
