WWYD - Global Internet Collapse
The internet is down worldwide, people are going crazy, banks are melting down, politicians are calling for mass disruptions, as you sit there, your last online session is flashing warnings of a skull and crossbones, a knock on the door is heard...

What would you do?

I would be very happy.

The world was better off without it. I was there and life was GOOD- here in Lost Wages, some parts were so GOOD that they can't be put into writing.

It was a lot better when people were still human and not a bunch of:

Yup. Public access internet became a widespread thing when I was in eighth grade.

I remember how world-changing it felt, but it would be *years* before smartphones came to the fore. And honestly? The before times had a lot more direct, meaningful connections between people--and a lot less of the naked aggression we too frequently practice here.

Most of my video games are owned in an independently usable physical format, whether it's cartridge based, disc based or on mini-console, so while I can't say I wouldn't miss the internet, I could live without it.

Meh, that wasn't really the fault of the internet. Phone zombies didn't exist before the iphone in the early days of the internet, nor was it really much better. People still complained about the boob tube viewers being zombified.

Here's a choice little excerpt from a 1958 senate Television inquiry[books.google.com]:

May I ask one question: Have there been any tests made as to relationship between the view of the program and whether or not they like the thing they are looking at? Is it automatic that if it is pretty punk, they will turn it off? Or do they get to be television zombies and sit there because they know there is no use to fish around and look for anything else better?"

The only difference the internet made, in conjunction with the phones, is that the zombies could come out from their crypts and into the direct public eye, earbuds electronically feeding sound-waves directly to their eardrums.

The only thing that changed about the zombies is that they don't have to detach themselves from The Matrix to change locations anymore.

Play video games and relax while I revel in all of the chaos. Do you not believe that the Internet being down is the same as if this happened worldwide? Pshaw! You will survive, trust me!

Well i already got my physical / digital off-line backups of videogames, music, encyclopedias, books, etc. So personaly not much will change, sure modern banking being dead would be annoying for the first few months, but a return to payment in cash & people talking more directly, instead of through screens could be a very good benefit overall. :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

When reading the comments sometimes I get sad.

I was born at the perfect time in humanity to have seen the world both with and without the tech era.

The old version was MUCH more FUN FUN FUN!!!
I think everyone is overlooking why the skull and crossbones appeared on their screens which could coincide with the knocking.

Ok then, explain it.
