"Ghost Posts"
hello there

im noticing a glut, recently, of posts being made then swiftly deleted.

is this Steam's AI detection working or is it flawed bot behavior?

or some other explanation?

i say a lot of daft things, realise i am typing a daft thing only after posting it, and then delete it
It must be people deleting their own posts. That's way beyond the skills and abilities of the current mod team.

There is a handful of bot accounts that post. Once you point out that a thread is made by the bot account, it is quickly deleted.

agreed that there is a number of these.

it would be so fun if steam allowed politics threads so that they could design an automod to manhandle the bot nets from other countries in the most diabolical of test beds, ready to sell it to facebook, x, and instagram for UNTOLD BILLIONS????!??!?!

however as fun as my imagination is, that's really unlikely.

probably what you said - they coded it wrong, and its auto deleting itself for some reason. or, maybe someone's first thread and they got so bashful they had to delete it with blushy cheeks.

yeah, ditto, but often these are not the usual dirge of "woke"/racism/poop topics we mostly get.

they may not be top tier, but seem to be better than some of the threads by "regulars"

if they were utter dross, id understand it, but they often aren't.

Hate it when it happens. Between writing out a response and fighting the fact that Steam forgot to update and allow the spell checker to work, by the time I respond, the post has been closed.

I think someone or a bunch of someones took it as a challenge, when a poster said, in some other thread, Steam forums are not possible to over run, like the other true social media sites are.

"Forums are a bad format for, mass automated manipulation and engagement farming etc."

Isn't the case, its just not worth the effort as the crowd here is pretty small compared to the rage bait platforms, where spam is not just legal, its currency/economy in its own right.

That said, there was a new handle earlier that had some super awesome thread starters (as in I was actually excited for the threads and I was mid swallow on taking the bait *shows the snapped off hooks in the cheeks* see?), but all of them were nuked within 5 minutes, so I guess something is up.

Were a half dozen other new handles but those other handles did not have the volatile magma like that one handle did. Too bad too sad, they were also mass vaporized (other handles which I had no opinion on, other than, boring).

Perhaps the robot poster legion has some reality distortion to project because some wild ♥♥♥♥ has been going down in the real world, as usual, none of it objectively reported.

Probably won't last, its some kind of weird escalation game in the background, shadow internet war, of meaningless words.

I've only seen this from one user and I guess he just realizes he's posted cringe every time he presses "post thread"

Some of my posts were deleted in the BG3 forum. Poof. Gone. Like Keyser Soze.

Well depends if said post get close enough to being outside the automated script "overton window".
For example a couple of months ago, any comment or thread mentioning Palantir plan to copy the chinese social credit system & survelliance system or mocking Peter Thiel plans (one of the key founders of Palantir, and lobbyist + zealot of the Dark Enlightenment ideology which is techno-feudalism on steroids), got vaporized in mere seconds of it being posted to very few minutes. However since scrutiny of Palantir shenanigans has entered the mainstream public discourse / overton window, the automated system allows it.

Think of it like yotube "shadow banning", as in is not a direct ban per se it's just short of enforcement of corporate and/or govt approved overton window / narrative. :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

That was the plan under Biden, no Palentir required.

Not even close to being outside the overton window.

Steam seems to target topic spam, not replies.
