war/military spending vs healthcare spending in a US context
Libertarians and conservatives seem to think the US should not spend on a national healthcare system because they think it's a less ideal economic path than whatever they envision.

But the reality is that if the government does NOT spend on national heatlhcare, they will spend that money on military spending and wars. There is no politically realistic alternative case where the money that would have gone into healthcare spending goes back into the pockets of average people if it isn't spent on healthcare.

So really the only question voters should ask themselves is: do I want to get free healthcare in return for my tax money?

Total anecdote, but here in Sweden most people that i've seen gladly trade high taxes for (almost) free healthcare and education.

The US Government is so broke their credit card interest payment exceeds what it costs to run it's military. Reached the debt level where if we used the military to take over every country on Earth and stole all their money...We still would not have enough to pay off the debt.
Put the whole country on "Pretend Healthcare", Veterans Affairs. You'd see those illegal immigrants running out of the USA so fast their shoes would fall off.

"pay tax money" and "free (insert word here)", doesnt quite pan out.

if you are "paying for it", you arent "getting it free", but it being "taxes", means you are "paying for everyone".

also, i think we all know, "free healthcare" is not what the US ever had, or was going to have, but also... how horrible "free healthcare" actually is... in its current state, in other places.

that said, no i dont want to pay for everyones healthcare, especially not non-citizens, as if i was not already forced, to pay for others "healthcare", then i would rather it benefit, americans, but more to the point, my own community, not other nations citizens, etc... whom arent here legally.

lots of americans could use that "tax" money, for food, as they scratch a living, trying to survive, whose going to pay for "free healthcare", when people end up starving, homeless, etc..

that all said, im all for military spending, if it means our country is safer, instead of cutting it to allow the US to become weak and be walked over like a rug.

also, the US is what? 37 trillion in debt? ya... aint no "free healthcare" happening anytime soon (taxes dont even cover the outlandish prices they charge for medical/etc.., so who is paying these outrageous amounts of money, for each individual, out of the small amount of taxes, the government? or would they charge you more in "taxes"?).

let alone any extra expenses, or bringing any cuts back that were nonsense to begin with.

have a great day

People always say "we can't afford national healthcare... look at the national debt!" But the reality is in the absence of spending on national healthcare, government spends on war/military, which continues to drive up that national debt. And will continue to do so.

So the only question is... do you want to get something back for your tax money, or not?

The situation in Sw*den and in the US are not comparable.
Health care would raise everyones taxes 25 percent most likely. You better really want it cause mibimum wage would be 2640 a monrh and 25 percent of that is $640. You willing to pay 640 every month?

I get the sense you didn't read what other people wrote before writing your comment, because your comment fails to address the main point.

You will pay a similar amount of taxes whether the government spends on healthcare or not, because IF the government doesn't spend the money on healthcare, THEN will spend it on the military/wars.

There is no escaping this fact: the US government will spend spend spend on either social welfare spending or military/wars until its currency is ruined or its "credit cards" get declined and we have a financial crisis / austerity measures.

Therefore, IF you cut funding to healthcare spending, THEN all it means is the government has more money available that they will spend on military/wars. Therefore, cutting healthcare spending saves you NOTHING.

Republicans may actually be the worst. Especially old boomer republicans.

Most likely had the government pay for all their schooling in the 70's and now thats its time to return the favor?

Nah ♥♥♥♥ the young people and gouge them for everything their worth.
Boomers who had "their schooling in the 70's" didn't get the government to pay for it. (it's not the government's money anyway, it's the people's money) They paid for it themselves because once upon a time you could go to non-Ivy league schools for next to nothing. Then the government started subsidizing higher education through loans and the prices shot through the roof.

Boomers were able to pay for it because college education was heavily subsidized by governments.

As boomers got out of college and got into high-earning careers, they voted for politicians who cut state financial support for universities to fund tax cuts boomers enjoyed along with their high-earning careers.

It worked out great for boomers, but the result was rising college tuition for younger generations.

That's pretty much how debt works when you have the initial lenders applying interest to it. If every person in the world tried to pay off their debts there would be no money left in circulation, and we would still owe more. This is fractional reserve banking.
