should the internet have some type of international law?
Serious answers only please. It has done a real shake up to how people live their lives, and I think that we need to be protected from it by having some limitations enforced. I don't know what they should be, but we are in a world now where people won't hesitate to identify themselves as a nazi supporter on jubilee, or to cheer for the death of people they hate. Something has to change to make people afraid of expressing these sentiments.

Gabe's Law
Yeah sure why not
The ISO, IEEE and W3C are the bosses. And ICANN.

The UK can go kiss Apple's fanny*.

Uhh is this a bait thread? everyone is bound by their countries laws I can't make or upload naughty videos where I kill an animal and post it without running the risk of prison. The whole issue with the Internet is the anonymous factor nobody knows whose who...
the internet should have some sort of passport. win10 was the first to bring this a step forward.

taxes too
It's technically impossible, as long as VPNs, TOR, Linux and other alternatives exist, you can't fully control the internet and you can't either get rid of those, because the very lives of some human rights activists and journalists depend on these tools. And a lot of countries will not agree with such laws anyway and become paradises for the most extremists peoples, all concentrated in the same geographical areas ...

I think it could potentially be way worse than doing nothing.

Anyway, laws of a country still apply on the internet anyway and police and justice are already doing their job (arresting pedophiles and so on). I don't think that's a good idea to try to enforce such laws, as it could backfire very badly.

Also, imo, if peoples who are neo-nazis identify as such, I consider it a good thing. Why ? Because at least, you know it, they don't hide. From this point you can talk with them and reason them. Thinking making peoples afraid to speak solve anything is delusional, it just hide the crap under the carpet

is this a bait?
internet laws to prevent people from identifying as nazis?
age verification to protect the children?
digital id to protect us from immigrants?

you can add i2p to that
there's always people trying to censor other people so there will always be censorship resistant communication. It's great.

It already sort of does, but it's complicated because it's governed by a relatively young system of norms that still hasn't been fully harmonized with actual laws. Most of the standards and procedures were set down in the '90s by groups that were mostly controlled by American corporations at the time, with the related standards and processes being internationalized later (IETF, IANA, ICANN). Over a key period of time (late '80s/early '90s) much of "Internet law" was effectively not much more than the opinion of one guy, Jon Postel.

At various times, there have been proposals and power struggles over who owns "the Internet". I'd suggest reading about the history of the Domain Name System and the Open Root Server Network if that sounds interesting to you.
YES.

But good luck with strictly enforcing those laws.

Maybe fine big $$$$$$$, &/or some sort of public punishment for being found guilty.

But who's to really know the REAL TRUTH when you're hiding behind a screen?
Perhaps Advanced A.I. will?

Yeah sure, why not. But who gets to decide those laws?

I don't know. It also lets people see the kind of people they are. Maybe the problem is bigger.

If they're showing their face they can already face consequences
It should be focused more on those who don't uwu
Considering there is no ownership (beyond copywrite) nothing below a govt would have any input to anything like an industry standard.
Now a govt does have graet control on what happens within it's border (even digitally) but it will vary by govt type. Those type variations could drive concepts, from anything goes, to a digital iron curtain. Outside it's boarders nothing will be possible that isn't a specific treaty, thats only applicable to it's signatories.. .. .. good luck with that
