Can't Create Windows 11 Media Tool

I downloaded Windows 11 Creation Tool via https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 option 2, "Create Windows 11 Installation Media" whenever I start the tool it loads for a second then stops.

Tried rebooting and.. nothing.

Now I'm trying option 3: "Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) for x64 devices"

I'm assuming I just download the ISO and put it on my USB stick then reboot Windows with my USB stick as the bootable drive and then a fresh install will happen? Or am I wrong?

I'm unsure why this is happening but I'm of mind that the partition I have default windows installed to has no space so it's not launching even though it's been downloaded to a partition with 100+ GB free(Windows partition only has 1gb).

Worst case scenario I have an old disc version of Windows 7 I can use to upgrade to Windows 10/11 on a fresh SSD but I'd rather just have this work from the get go.

I'm assuming Option 3 will just launch from the USB and install Windows 11 when I boot from the USB drive?

you will need to extract the iso to the usb stick, not just copy the iso to the usb

use winiso (free) or other extract tool to do that

i always disable windows 'zip features' so it no longer treats compressed files as folders and use appropriate tools to handle the compressed files

Once you download the ISO you can use Rufus[rufus.ie] to make a bootable USB flash drive from it.

EDIT: You don't need to do the hardware requirement bypasses to use Rufus to make the installer

EDIT2: Or use Etcher[etcher.balena.io]. Etcher is probably easier way to make an unmodified installer

Also, you're hunch is most likely correct. You need space on your windows drive for the tool to extract the image.

Okay, I just deleted literally everything on my windows partition to make room - just enough and create a boot disk for windows 11... also upgraded to Windows 11 while I was at it.

I guess I can now do a full build.

I'm assuming I can completely reformat my drive from the Windows 11 boot drive, right? I just start it up with the USB stick as the start point then reformat the SSD and remove any partitions for a full reformat of the SSD?

Just use Rufus and then from the MS Win11 website download thee full ISO. Then connect a usb flash drive of 8GB or larger you can format clean. Load up Rufus and point to the ISO file and start the tool to format the usb flash drive with the iso contents

Select iso
Install to usb stick
Tell rufus to disable forced online account and tpm unless u want those

Maybe give linux a try
