The future of UI - A take on feature integration
Hello friends,

The current build of Steam feels dated. I am not one of those types who automatically adopts something because it is newer and therefor "better".

I apply this logic everywhere in life. At the end of the day, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Looking at Steam app tho, this includes the mobile version of the client, it feels stalled in terms of integration.

I want to be able to save and edit a clip inside the app, whether I am "dead" in the middle of a match or on my phone after it's over. i want to be able to share it and others see it.

In order to prevent derailing, I would appreciate replies that answer the questions:

How can we improve the UI experience when it comes to recording gameplay and sharing it?

What else do you recognize as feeling dated on the "blue era" platform?

What could VR do for changing the way users interact with things like menus and nesting?

You should rely upon dedicated software for that if you want quality results rather than a swiss army knife program. The video files from a game are on your computer, not your phone, streaming them to your phone will cause serious issues with traffic, especially across the networks, as well as provide a functionally worse experience.

The UI is constantly evolving, it's been the "blue era" in some form or another for so long that it isn't even recognizable.

VR is still in a super niche state, so work on it should not interfere with development for the vast majority of users. https://psteamproxy.yuanyoumao.com/hwsurvey/ There are more mac users than VR users.

Tl;DR follow your own advice:

VR is an untapped market that will revolutionize augmented reality.

At some point it will be the new smart phone.

Video gaming has become stale.

The fact is, Oculus offers a far more engaging style of games but they don't have modern graphics.

Whoever can bridge that gap, along with making them more powerful while lighter and compact, will have a decent shot at growing that market.

Not every "new thing" has to cater to mainstream right out the gate. It can be a slow build before exponential popularity turns something mainstream.

That's the long running thing "it's right around the corner", and has been for many years. HMD visualization systems have been around decades, it's been in fiction applied to video games for decades, it's been in the public access as a dedicated product for nearly a decade now.

It's the nuclear fusion of entertainment, not the smartphone. Great for a niche crowd of enthusiasts, but it needs a lot more of a massive breakthrough than the iterative development going on to get popular.

You want to upload uncompressed video to your cell phone while you play Counter-Strike? That sounds like it'd cause a lot of problems for both goals.

Compressed and on the cloud feels like an industry standard

Uploading video while you are playing a match and taking your attention off the match to edit the video sounds like two very bad ideas.

You explicitly said that you wanted to edit the video on your phone while playing the game. That's two different devices which may not be on the same LAN during a very latency and concentration sensitive video game match. Multiple recipes for disaster.
