From here on is the section below about the Steam Machine.
As we feared, they’re going to make the exact same mistake as the first time by selling it at a high price. Honestly, I’d rather build a gaming PC— even with the inflated prices caused by the memory shortage— than buy a Steam Deck for a thousand dollars, because in Latin America scalpers will sell it for that much.

They had the chance to sell it at an affordable price, under 500 dollars like the Steam Deck, but they wasted that opportunity.

I mean they'd be selling it at a loss for under $500, so that doesn't really make sense.

It's an mITX PC, not the steam deck. Also considering the recent issues with RAM prices, no one should be surprised if the price may be subject to change. Still likely going to be significantly cheaper than identical components from system builders.

So you want a Steam Machine with $300 less powerful hardware?

Or you just think Valve should sell it at a loss because you're convinced their prebuilt PC is a console and that's how consoles (well not Nintendo) do it.

Well it's not a console and you should switch to PS5 if that's what you want.

This same as console.
Selling at a loss is the only way to attract customers, meaning they'll at least absorb the extra cost of the RAM, but it's a huge mistake to price it at over $800; it'll suffer the same fate as the first one.

Moral of the story: It's better to lose 50% than to kill the Steam Machine a second time.
You'll pay scalpers prices regardless of what Valve sells it for.

Valve doesn't think so, and it's their machine. They say it's a PC, it's a prebuilt PC running linux, like a thousand other OEM machines.

So call it a console and be dumbfounded Valve isn't treating it like a console. Stops being a shocker when you accept they're treating it like a PC.
Price hasn't even been announced for the Steam Machine yet, so I suggest waiting for that before complaining about the price.

Also, the first "Steam Machines" were 3rd party machines with the Steam OS on it. Valve had no say in the pricing of those.
