The Steam Store has become unbearably slow
For the past few months I have noticed the steam store from the client has becoming more and more slow. Specifically the store pages that are always stuck trying to download images and the videos. To the point it has become unusable as I can't see to shop on the store pages. Games download super fast though.

I've tried deleting cache files etc but nothing fixes it. I am in Taiwan, so I don't know if something specific has happened to cause this for the region? This never used to be a problem. And now even the store website from a web browser like Chrome has the same issue. The speed of any other website is absolutely fine though, so its specific to Steam.

Maybe there is some issue with whatever CDN Steam uses for the store images and videos? And I assume that is a separate mechanism than the game download delivery which is fine, and probably some torrent derived system.

You mean something like this?

I've been having this problem since probably almost a year.

The only answer you will get is that the problem is on your end. It's waste of time. They're probably cutting costs, so in some regions CDNs are slower.

Looks similar, and yeh anything I could find like that looks like its been completely ignored. I wouldn't have thought Steam would need to cut costs like that though! I suspect its more likely the CDN's have changed something in the certain regions they are not aware of.

The lading screenshots thing happens to me forever though when I click another screenshot the first loads fine. Not a big deal but would like to see this addressed.

it's gotten awful for me when it comes to loading screenshots of games on their pages. Like, 20 years ago internet type slow. I don't remember the last time I had to wait for an image to finish materializing top to bottom...

I've tried clearing the download cache as some suggested, but that only made steam dump all cached images so now I sat here waiting for all the art and screenshots in my library to finish rebuilding, which just like store screenshots was slow as hell...

Also in Taiwan here and was wondering the same thing. Literally waiting 5+ minutes for some pages to load on Steam, both in the desktop app and in browsers. Wondering if it's an ISP thing, or like someone else said, Steam might just be cutting costs in regions with a lower user base.

There was recently a large DDoS attack that affected Steam among other services.

Check out the news:

It’s temporary, fixes are probably being made to the servers.

For what it’s worth, Steam is running smoothly on my end right now.

I am sure that doesn't help, but it isn't the main cause of what we are seeing in Taiwan (Multiple Western websites are absolutely fine in comparison). The past few days it has got a little better but it is still ridiculously slow - old dial-up modem slow like someone else said And this is a problem that has been happening for months now so I doubt it has been a DDOS all that time.

Left click Steam, Left click Settings, Left click Downloads, Change download region. Logout of Steam, Restart your system, Log back into Steam. See if this helps with performance. If it does report your success here.

You think that’s bad, try using Steam Mobile app. It has been even worse for years, all improvement recommendations and complaints being perpetually ignored.
