Hi Is there a way I can change the controls for individual motors? So 1 motor moves up and down the other moves left and right?

What I would like is to be able to mount sensors IE Distance sensors, and you could link these sensors/motors/other electronics up, so a distance sense can return a value(distance til any object) and you could perform an action based on a set value... I dunno say turn of motors if distance 10 is reached. I hope I've worded this so it's understandable!...
