I love yu gi oh

Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist is one of those games that hits purely on nostalgia, and honestly, that’s most of the reason it works. If you grew up playing Yu-Gi-Oh as a kid, booting this up feels like flipping through an old binder of cards you half-remember owning. Replaying the anime duels in story mode is easily the best part of the game, and it does a solid job of letting you relive those moments without overcomplicating things.

That said, the cracks show pretty quickly. The UI feels clunky and clearly designed with consoles in mind, which makes navigating menus and decks more annoying than it should be, especially if you’re used to PC card games. It’s not unusable, just awkward enough to constantly remind you that it could’ve been better thought out.

The biggest downside by far is the DLC situation. Locking major chunks of content—like Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Lost Duels—behind extra payments feels rough, especially when there are so many separate add-ons, each costing around five euros. It adds up fast and leaves the base game feeling incomplete unless you’re willing to spend quite a bit more.

I first played it before Master Duel came out, and at the time it was… fine. Not amazing, not terrible—just a decent way to get a Yu-Gi-Oh fix with a heavy dose of nostalgia. If that’s what you’re after, it delivers. Just don’t expect a smooth modern experience, and definitely don’t expect good value once the DLC starts piling up.

One last thing that’s hard to ignore: once Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution came out, it kind of made this version obsolete. Link Evolution is basically the same game but with way more cards, more story duels, and fewer reasons to feel like you’re missing content. From a purely practical standpoint, it’s the better package.

That said, Link Evolution usually sits around 40 euros, which changes the equation a bit. If you grab Legacy of the Duelist on Steam during a deep sale, it can actually be a solid bargain—especially if you mainly care about nostalgia and single-player duels. Online still works too, as far as I can tell; I’ve played matches with a friend not that long ago without any issues.

So yeah, it’s not the version you’d recommend by default anymore, but at the right price it still gives you the Yu-Gi-Oh experience without pushing you toward spending real money on virtual cards like Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel. You pay once, unlock cards by actually playing, and that’s it. No currencies, no battle passes, no gacha-style friction slowing you down.

This game feel more like a time capsule and for some players that might be the appeal. 7.5/10.
