finished this game today and i wanted to get some thoughts on it down because i find that my impressions of things to be their most raw in the immediate wake of my time with them, even as i continue to digest them later on.

if you're reading this for a general set of impressions about the silver case , i'll tell you that it's a fantastic game which presents a world that i became utterly lost in throughout its runtime. it takes inspiration from a number of my favorite works/artists and also plays unlike any visual novel i've seen or experienced; the way the game's assets are consolidated within different windows on the screen is, as i learned, a limitation that became apparent during development, but the style the team wrung out of that limitation is extremely memorable. there isn't anything else that conveys its visuals the same way this does, and it leads to some striking moments at different points, especially during the second and third cases. the structure is really good; i enjoyed the danielewski-esque perspective switches between the hard-boiled, punk-mouthed detectives of the hcu and the sopping wet rag of a man that is tokio morishima, the two halves of the story complement each other nicely and i came to quite enjoy the shifts in tone that they brought by the end.

lots of ideas and motifs from this will be bouncing around in my head for a while. the memetic influence of people and ideas across generations, the organization and stratification of society in a manner so dizzying that it'd make guy debord leap through his roof, isolation as both a form of socialization and social order, and the looming sense of your past as a set of hands clasped upon your shoulders, daring you to stare it in the face and wrest yourself from its grip so that you may finally be free. there's a lot of this game that speaks to the then-near arrival of y2k and what it would mean in a grand sense for the world to enter a new millennium; so much of this game's plot speaks of worldly change happening on such a grand scale and yet just outside of the average person's ability to grasp it. the way the game depicts the older guys in the hcu, and even tokio, as somewhat unable to grasp the possibilities or even the basic functionality of the internet feeds well into that, i think.

o fato de the silver case ser mais popular no japão que killer7 realmente me chamou muita atenção - suda como escritor sempre me chamou muita atenção - sinto que seu pacing pra contar a historia sempre soou interessante em killer7, infelizmente eu não gosto tanto de como é em no more heroes, mas ainda sinto esse gostinho que ele costuma entregar. eu sabia que the silver case ia me vender, mas não tanto quanto vendeu, achei ele perfeito tendo só alguns sentimentos de ''montanha russa'' no final. não gostei tanto do plot do final, até combina, mas senti que a forma fragmentada da ordem dos capitulos; deixou meio sem graça.

é um puta jogo definitivamente.
