I was looking at steamcharts and for some reason, beginning yesterday, the game has 1k concurrent? Anything happened?

Hi, so since yesterday im trying to get into the game. Im forever stuck on "looking for updates... pls wait several seconds" and if i click abort, it gets me to the real launcher, but then when i click play i get stuck again on "preparing game for first run... pls wait". I since left the launcher to do its thing for more than an hour already, am i missing something?...
