I actually made it to the lava levels and at this point it seems as if the game is explicitly designed to be unwinnable. The AI won't cast a spell until you have two units out, and the spell it casts will always instantly kill fully upgraded archers or mages. Since the axe men are utterly useless due to the time it takes them to attack once and the fact that their waiting period before they attack is reset if they are knocked back from an enemy attack (which they will be), the only other option is the warr...
