Exoterra – A Space Journey is a familiar story. You find yourself on an abandoned spaceship and must determine how to get things restarted to continue your journey. There are tablet computers left by the absent crew and these give you a bit of back-story. There are also key cards scattered about that provide incremental access to the rest of the ship.

Some achievements can be missed. Three are story related and will be earned by finishing the game. The rest are awarded for specific actions which are clearly stated in the achievement descriptions.

For the most part, gameplay involves traversing the ship, discovering codes to open cabinets and finding cards to access locked doors. You will need to build a mental map of the environment because the key card you find in one room may open a door on the opposite side of the ship. There is also a console that synthesizes different items and this is discovered by trial and error.

All in all, it is not a bad adventure and the puzzles were fair. I’d recommend it to those who enjoy exploring an empty environment to uncover what occurred in the past.

However, before jumping into Exoterra, be advised that it includes no save option and must be completed in a single sitting. If you are willing to accept this reality, then this trip to space should be enjoyable for you.

For me, the inability to save my game is a deal-breaker. Going forward, I would hope that this developer would consider adding this functionality to future projects.

So, very interesting game. Unfortunately, I had to stop playing. There's no FPS control and it is making my PC freak out. I even turned the graphics to low. I don't have a trash PC. It may not be a beast, but it can play most games very well.
