Besmirch - what to expect

Hello, fellow Besmirchians!

It's been a hot minute since we've updated you on what's up with "Besmirch". There has been A LOT of development in the past month. And with less than a month (!) left till Early Access, we want to give you a little overview of what to expect!

Before I jump in and say what we're cooking, I'd like to mention that you should expect a post with a detailed roadmap in the upcoming weeks! Stay tuned for that :)

~ What to expect in Besmirch Early Access? ~

We've heard the feedback and came up with, hopefully, the most satisfying outcomes for players. Let's start with the most important updates.

First, we have added a map! Now, you'll be able to find your way around "Besmirch" without worrying about being lost!

Second, we've upgraded the cave system to make it more accessible. You'll encounter monsters, but they'll be more manageable.

Third, we have added a tutorial to help you figure out the starvation mechanic in "Besmirch"!

For content updates, here are some things that have been added:

New dungeons;
Improved guns and gun parts;
New furniture;
Tool upgrades at the blacksmith;
You can actually build the forge;
The building region has townhouses now that you can access;
Lots of interactables, all highlighted;
A mansion boss fight;
Winter farming tutorial;
Sacred Forest;
New merchant that appears after 3 dark days;
New plants for each season;
Swords;
...and seriously so much more!

An important thing to note is that we currently have about 6 in-game weeks of storyline! You can keep playing past that point, though.

New plants will spawn, there will be a theme change, and other crops will be plantable. For now, the second half of winter, spring, and summer will look a bit bare, but worry not! We're planning on having a couple of major content updates for Early Access, so it feels much fuller!

We will update you with that roadmap so you are aware of the pace of development :)

Hi!

We've been silent for a second here; lots of things are in the works! Besmirch is transforming into its almost final form, and we couldn't be more excited!

There have been no new updates to the demo. However, we are aware of the existing bugs and take all your suggestions very seriously!

A couple of new exciting features that we've been working on these days:

Seasons! (check out some of the winter stuff on X[x.com]);
Blacksmith and weapon upgrades;
New enemies, spawning at night;
A very special snowman :,) ;
Hardwood and hard rock;
Themed house decor;
More buildings to build and fix;

...And so much more!

We also smoothed out a couple of things:

Controller support should feel less clunky;
Music transitions are flowy:
Grammar and punctuation are much more accurate and consistent;
NPC houses will be accessible;
Collision with walls and objects is more forgiving (gliding around corners).

Besmirch Demo Patch

Hello, hello!

We're back after Next Fest, ready to work more than ever before!

From now on, there will be a few updates to the demo version of Besmirch. That said, any existing bugs and crashes will be addressed.

We've fixed all the issues mentioned after the last update.

Here's a little bug fix breakdown:

Fixed a rare crash happening during Beet Festival;
Fixed a crash where the player dies due to starvation in a cutscene;
No more walking on water;
Phantom Beet Festival game is gone for good;
3 days of darkness monster doesn't duplicate;
Fixed items disappearing from the in-house cabinet when picked up;
The crucifix is no longer a lantern;
When using the controller and holding the lantern/crucifix/flashlight, the player no longer follows the cursor.

And a couple more issues mentioned by players. Thank you, everybody, for the feedback!

We also added a bug reporting tool! Now, you can report bugs by clicking a little bug guy on the front screen. How cool is that?!

Also, the posts that you see here will be partially managed by Gangrue's wife (me :) ), hence using "We", not "I."

Besmirch exploits

So I started playing besmirched about a week ago. I had fun the first time, so I did a second playthrough, and I realized that if you go to the caves, kill the one or two enemy immediate to the area, and just start breaking the walls, you are safe from all dangerous (aside from hunger) and make insane amounts of money. I made 10,000 gold in one night, and solved the famine by buying berries from the cart guy. And I did again, and again. and now I've paid off my loan, and have finished the main objectives o...

Besmirch (Demo) - Bug Reports

Crosses and Consequences.

So, I've been playing through this a few times, because I enjoy it, but one thing I've noticed is that, after a while, the crucifixes you can find around the town become quite scarce. Is there gonna be a renewable source of them in the full game, will they respawn, or will I just have to eventually deal with the consequences of not placing one out, as they're kind of a limited crutch for starting out, due to lack of armor and weaponry? ....am I accidentally pushing the town closer to damnation by taking...

Food Ration Supply

I know I'm dumb as hell, but I've tried everything after the first week to get people fed. Putting crops in the bin, keeping the food on me before going to bed, gifting the food every day in town individually, cooking the food before doing any of the previous attempts. I guess maybe the only thing I hadn't done was leave them in the ground, but the only day I could hand anything out was the very first introduction of the rationing system, so now the reaping has to begin I suppose.
