Telltale’s Game of Thrones feels like a faithful spinoff that understands the cruelty of Westeros all too well. You don’t play as the famous characters from the books or show, but as House Forrester, a struggling northern family caught in the gears of larger powers. That choice works surprisingly well: the story captures the constant dread of betrayal, the fragile hope of alliances and the inevitability of hard choices that rarely lead to happy endings.

The writing is strong, often brutal, and the decisions sting more than in many other Telltale titles. True to form, there are no “right” answers, just compromises that haunt you later. If you enjoyed the tension of the HBO series, you’ll recognize the same rhythm of hope and heartbreak here.

On the downside, the technical side is rough. The engine shows its age with clunky animations, occasional stutters and visuals that feel cheap compared to the source material’s grandeur. Worse, the story ends on an unfinished note, clearly written with a second season in mind that never came. That lack of closure makes the whole experience feel a little hollow in retrospect.

Still, for fans of Telltale’s narrative style, this is one of their darker, sharper works. It doesn’t flatter the player, it punishes them - sometimes cruelly - but that’s also what makes it feel true to Game of Thrones.
