2.7 Beta updated with the ALL CAPS fix & iOS beta access

Patch 2.7.2.0 for the Infinity Engine beta is out now for BG:EE, SoD, BGII:EE, and IWD:EE!

Here are the patch notes:

\[BG1, BG2 & IWD] Fixed the 2.7.1.0 issue where English and other Latin-script languages would appear in ALL CAPS.

NOTE: If you played in a language that appeared in all-caps in 2.7.1, you must make a manual edit to the Baldur.lua file for this fix to apply.

Baldur.lua file can be found at <user>/Documents/<game>/Baldur.lua Ex. “C:\\Users\\<USER>\\Documents\\Icewind Dale - Enhanced Edition\\Baldur.lua”

These steps are only necessary if you are experiencing the all-caps bug.

Option 1 (if you do not make personal edits to Baldur.lua)

Delete your Baldur.lua file, the game will recreate it with correct values

Option 2 (if you have edits in Baldur.lua you wish to keep)

Open Baldur.lua in a text editor
find all lines like the one below and delete them (a “Fonts” line that uses “STONESML”):

\[iOS] Apple versions finally updated

iPhone and iPad adventurers everywhere, rejoice: it’s finally happening! Baldur's Gate I & II and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Editions are receiving their first major iOS update since 2018. Yes… we know. It’s been a while.

The new iOS updates include:

All 2.6 features & fixes previously exclusive to PC and Android, including new character voice sets from the legendary Mark Meer, and 11 new character portraits
A wide range of new translations
Full user access to game data — including native access to save files and more

The games now store and read data from a location visible to standard file browsers. You can manage saves and other files directly on your device or by connecting it to a computer.

Party Compositions

What have you all ran before? This is my first time getting properly stuck in on the game after a bunch of false starts, getting into Dragon's Eye, and I'm playing a party of Human Cavalier, Human Berserker 3>Druid dual, Half Elf Ranger/Cleric, Half-Elf Bard, Gnome Illusionist/Thief, and Elf Dragon Disciple. -I'm 50/50 on choosing Cavalier over Undead Slayer so far. He still blows things up with his greatsword either way, and Paladin seems crazy good in IWD compared to BG1 and 2, no complaints. With casti...

Snake Lair Seems Much More Hard Now

I played and finished the game when it first released. The Snake Lair seems insanely more difficult. Also the content that follows (severed hand and dorns depp) is much more easy than the Snake Lair. Also the Snake Demoness almost wiped my party the first time i battled her. Only the mage survived. Current party is almost the same as many years ago. 2 dwarven warriors 1 mage 1 druid avenger (simple druid in the past) 1 thief/mage 1 warrior/ cleric (pure cleric in the past) Do you guys feel the same ♥♥♥...

Patch 2.7.1.0 for the Infinity Engine beta is out now for BG:EE, SoD, BGII:EE, and IWD:EE!

New Chinese font: developed with our localization volunteers to improve readability across the trilogy

Per‑language font zoom: Font Size slider settings now save individually for each language, giving you better control over how every script appears

All settings are stored in your Baldur.lua, and language font codes include MEIRYO (JP), NANUM (KR), NOTOSANS (ZH), PTSERIF (RU/UA), and STONESML (others).

New Infinity Engine 2.7 beta release

Hello to Icewind Dale and Infinity Engine fans around the world!

We’re excited to announce a new beta test for our upcoming 2.7 patch for BG:EE, SoD, BGII:EE, and IWD:EE. We’ll begin testing on PC, Steam only, as it’s the most technically convenient for us, and later bring the update to mobile as well.

We know it’s been a long wait since 2.6 (and for iOS players, since 2.5). We’re truly sorry it took this long. With 2026 marking 14 years since BG:EE first launched on PC, we want to thank you for staying with us on this journey.

Before diving into the patch notes, we’d like to share our design philosophy for future Infinity Engine updates at this stage of the games’ life cycle.

Our goal is to keep these classics running smoothly amid evolving technical requirements and operating systems on both PC and mobile. Unfortunately, we don’t have the resources to update the console versions: those would require extensive certification processes we can’t currently support. We also want to update PST:EE on PC and mobile in the future, but because it’s on a different patch level from BG and IWD, it might follow later.

We’re focused on improving the overall quality-of-life experience. That’s why the 2.7 update introduces proper cloud saving and native support for Apple Silicon Macs.

We’re also finally able to bring community-created localizations into the games. We know this took far too long, and we appreciate your patience. The good news is that adding new translations will now be much easier on our end, so future community-prepared localizations can be integrated more smoothly.

Everyone at Beamdog is, first and foremost, a fan of these legendary games. It’s an honor to continue supporting them nearly 15 years after the Enhanced Editions, and more than 25 years after the original Baldur’s Gate.

IE 2.7.0.0 Patch Notes

Dynamic language support. We have made changes to the BG1:EE, BG2:EE, and IWD:EE games to allow easier language updates and additions in the future. These updates should not require a patch on most store fronts and we should be able to update most games on an ad hoc basis. This release will also include the latest updates from the Beamdog Translate site for these games.

\[Steam] Steam Cloud saves can now be controlled via the Steam client. Previously, the only way to enable or disable Steam Cloud Saves for BG1:EE, BG2:EE, and IWD:EE was within the Gameplay Options of the games. Now, Steam Cloud Saves are controlled by the Steam client and the individual game properties settings.

If you have enabled Steam Cloud Saves with the Gameplay Options setting, Steam Cloud Saves will continue to be enabled for you. Please note that with this in-game option enabled the game will sync your save games with the Steam Cloud Saves even if this option is disabled within the Steam client Cloud Save settings.

If you disable the in-game Steam Cloud Saves option, this option will no longer appear in the options menu. To enable Steam Cloud Saves, you will need to use the Steam Account and Application settings. Steam Account and Application settings for Steam Cloud Saves:

\[BG2] We have added the following community-translated languages to the game: Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, and Ukrainian.

\[IWD] We have added the following community-translated languages to the game: Hungarian and Japanese.

\[macOS] Added Apple Silicon support

With native support for Apple Silicon, users can expect faster app launch times, overall improved performance, and faster rendering. In addition, laptops will benefit from lower power consumption while playing, leading to longer battery life.

Test Objective

Launch the Beta on Steam
Verify the added languages to BG2 and IWD - NOTE the translations themselves are the purview of the community contributions
Verify that the Steam cloud save options work as expected
Verify macOS versions run as expected on Apple Silicon
Provide the following feedback (if appropriate for your device)
- Windows - I am able to play the game and use cloud saves
- MacOS (Intel CPU) - I am able to play the game and use cloud saves
- MacOS (Apple Silicon CPU) - I am able to play the game and use cloud saves
- Linux - I am able to play the game and use cloud saves
- I was able to play the game, but don't use cloud saves (please note platform)
- I was NOT able to get the start screen (please explain)
- I was able to start the game, but there is an issue with cloud saves (please explain)

How to opt-in and verify in-game you're running the correct version:

In your Steam Library, Right-Click Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition and choose “Properties”
Click on the Beta Tab
Choose the road_to_2.7 in the drop down menu
If you don't see the road_to_2.7 in the drop down menu, please restart Steam
In-game, on the main menu, you will see that the build is 2.7
