Brutal Legend is what happens when Jack Black, heavy metal and a fever dream fuse into a video game and somehow it goes absolutely hard. The world is dripping in style, the writing is genuinely funny and the soundtrack is so good it should come with a prescription. Eddie Riggs is peak fictional human being. The only catch is that halfway through, the game looks you dead in the eyes and goes surprise, it's an RTS now. It comes out of nowhere like a jumpscare and does not have the range. Still, the rest of the game is so unironically awesome that it carries hard. Easy recommend if you like metal or just vibing in a world that goes absolutely insane.

Overall, Brutal Legend is a great game with great music that set in an interesting world filled with extensive lores. Personally, it takes a bit of time for me to fully enjoy since i'm not really a big fan of Heavy Metal music before but it grows on me, fan of that music genre can enjoy the game alot more.

The mix of Action Hack & Slash and the Strategy element kinda odd at first but make the game fresh from time to time. Moreover, there are different side quests that keep the game interesting as well. Yet they can be a bit of repetitive along with the combat.

There are some clunkiness to the driving and activating ability during the RTS segment such as the turning the car can be slow & unresponsive at some time, activating the ability sometimes take a bit long. Occasionally, you will be stuck in some part of the map due the car falling in there, but you can start at the last checkpoint so no problem there. Lastly, there is no fast-travel point anywhere in-game so you have to travel back & forth ALOT of time, which can be a bit frustrating and time-consuming.

Absolutely phenomenal game. Double Fine did it again! Awesomely inventive storyline, memorable characters, flawless VO and some of the best music I've heard in a game since GTA: Vice City. And what amazing talent to have in the game! Ozzy, Brian Posehn, Tim Curry!!!! And, of course, Jack Black as Himself (basically).

This game is an absolute love letter to Heavy Metal. It has everything it should have, from crazy lore and massive hair to overblown pyrotechnics and badass riffs. I've never been a massive fan of Metal, but after playing this, I'm gonna find some Ozzy CDs and give them another listen. Ozzy Osborne, eh? Absolute LEGEND, RIP you glorious S.O.B, Music will never be the same again without you.

There's a line in the game about what Metal is... and one of the components, it says, is a touch of melancholy... With Ozzy's passing, I hear it now. I never heard it before, but the game's actually made me want to listen to it some more.

I don't know if I want them to make a sequel.. This game was just so good, it's hard to imagine being able to equal-or-better it. About the only part of the game that I felt could do with a little improving was the RTS sections. Clearly designed to be ported to Console, the controls were quite clunky compared to the smoothness of other pure RTS games that use the mouse. But that was just one small part of a phenomenal whole. The rest of the game is a lot of open world searching for collectibles, doing side missions and exploring, all of which is perfection. Double Fine are masters at creating truly innovative games with memorable (and interesting) cartoonish characters.

I think this is still a pretty darn good game 16 years later. Really enjoyed playing it, and sometimes I admit I just left the music playing while I did some work (hence the 33 hours).
