Can't believe this is free, this is a very good roguelike that has super satisfying progression and health management.
it's simple but the abilities have depth, weapons are super cool, bosses are also good. It's also quite different from other roguelikes here you don't have a traditional healthbar, only hearts, so taking damage is more punishing but you're also more OP.

This game uses deceptive marketing as "roguelike", probably the dev was by misguided by some troll/scammer/parody definition. To be clear: roguelike is a subgenre of RPGs in which time moves when you move (more precisely, the system popularized by the game Rogue, hence the name), see e.g. Moonring, Touhou Crawl or GnollHack for some free modern roguelikes on Steam; they are generally more fun than standard action games because you can think about your actions for as long as you want, and pull off really satisfying tactics. Also, roguelikes focus on freedom, and they are much more open-ended than typical RPGs: the player can use their sandbox/simulationist nature to solve the procedurally generated challenges their own way, they have complex loot systems. Sometimes "action roguelike" is used loosely for heavily roguelike-inspired games which share a similar procedural sandbox/loot philosophy, e.g. Diablo, Spelunky, Noita, Path of Exile, Minecraft, Terraria,

The game feels very similar to the 2003 hit Crimsonland, described as "top-down arena shooter with RPG elements": you play in an empty arena (instead of a procedurally generated map), you get RPG-ish upgrades that lasts only for the current run, you unlock new modes, etc. I would be much more positive about this game if it was described like this; roguelikes have none of these properties, and this game has nothing of what makes roguelikes great. On the good side, the graphics style (what drew me in) is great, and in general it feels much better than Crimsonland, and it is very cool that it is a free game.
