V24.3 Beta Branch Update!

Hey everyone! New content has been added to the V24 beta branch.

We’d love to hear your thoughts as you play, so check out our dedicated beta feedback subforum and share your feedback on the tech changes and Trader Jobs. (Also the lore notes, if it's your first time checking them out!)

How to access a Steam beta branch

Open Steam and go to your Library
Right-click The Infected
Click Properties…
Go to the Betas tab
Under Beta Participation, pick Beta Branch from the dropdown
Close the window - you're good to go!

Changes

Tech Cost
- Tech progression has been reworked - some technologies now require multiple points to unlock.
Tech Pages
- Tech pages now spawn randomly in POIs, both inside buildings and on props such as tables, barrels, etc.
Tech Point Acquisition
- Recovered tech pages will no longer grant enough tech points to unlock every technology. Players will instead need to complete Jobs from the Trader (see more details about Jobs below).
Price Adjustment
- The sale price of cement has been reduced from 0.80 to 0.25.

Additions

Trader Jobs
- Introduced a new Trader system that rewards Tech Points and Coins.
- Turning in quest items grants 3× more coins than selling them.
Inventory UI
- Added a new button for quick access to the Journal.
Jobs Tab
- Added a new Jobs section to the UI.

Whend did this game turn into a walking simulator?

After walking around for at least 8 real hours, and covering over 2/3 of the map, I'm completely fed up with searching for the ATV of truck. There is no way of getting the location of this thing anymore and that is a bad development. At least hide some notes with coordinates or something like that, in several towns and poi's for everyone that isn't so lucky to find the vehicle early in the game. I can tell you that I am playing day 36 now and thinking about quiting all together. Walking, walking, walking...

Trader Reliance is a Bad Move

While I think the increase of tech costs is something that will bring something interesting to the game. making it so we have to interact with traders for it is a bad decision. I for one would prefer to limit my interactions with traders and treat this as the survival game it started as and not some rpg quest game. Please consider increasing the availability tech points in pois and maybe even adding them to the central big city to make up the difference or even as a secondary way to obtain them so we ...

My wishlist

-Hard to make guns. Or ones that can only be found and need to be repaired. You're talking all this other tech and that not being possible. plus military...doesn't fit the setting in any sense. Doesn't have to be fancy, but a pistol, a hunting rifle, something with a scope. Maybe even a saw blade launcher! -Traps and technical traps: Electric fences, spinning blades, pit traps, spring spike traps, even traps that launch things/players/creatures like a catapult. Bear and snare traps, too. A monowire trap, ...
