Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3

Why are all my companions Bi?
Don’t you think it would make more sense if every character had their own defined sexual preferences? To me, it feels a bit off. I recently played through the Mass Effect trilogy, and those companions each had clear preferences, which made them feel more like real people. By trying to give the player too much freedom, I feel like Larian accidentally made the companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 come across as less believable.

I don't have a problem with bi-sexual character's either FYI.

It's a game mechanic to provide options.
When NPCs do have their own preferences, people complain anyway (ie, Suvi in ME:Andromeda). So why try to please the very small contingent of whiners?

And only half the characters are bi in any given playthru. If you play a female, the male NPCs are straight when romancing you.

A question to ask the writers, not us, but I suspect the answer is "So any version of the PC can romance whichever romance option they want."
There's nothing unrealistic about it, this particular selection of people happen to be bisexual.
Also, it's not true; the romancable companions are bi, Jaheira is straight, Minsc is almost certainly asexual.

Each play through being a parallel reality is an easy way to see it.
The answer is they are all "playersexual" and designed to be particularly thirsty. That has been confirmed by the devs of the game.
No, they are absolutely not believable. It was actually bad enough that this caused an entire war on this forum. That was until the people calling out the companions being too eager were vindicated when the devs admitted the problem and they had to patch the issue, twice.
People still to this day try to say they were never thirsty, even though the devs have confirmed as much.

Believe it or not, as a man, I do NOT enjoy men OR women suddenly wanting to trip and fall onto my crotch.

I mean that's true of any game. But in this case I disagree; the romancable companions are actually bi. There's more backing it up than just their feelings for the PC; Gale will have an ex-girlfriend regardless, Astarion has canonically had male and female lovers, Shadowheart enjoys the attention of both drow twins if you bring her along for that etc.

Is the Gale bug still rent free for some this far after?

Yeah, that’s exactly what I mean. I think it was at the tiefling party where every single one of my companions suddenly tried to romance me—it really caught me off guard. I was just being friendly, and then suddenly everyone was coming on to me.

Again with this? As we established last time, the devs did no such thing, you were able to find one dev making a joke about it,there was no "war", on this forum or anywhere else, and the only patch related to problems with romance was to fix a bug in the first couple of months, not revise intended play.
Please stop presenting baseless statements as fact.
All romantic &/or sexual options are de facto Panromanitc/sexual-when woo'ed &/or made love by/making love to YOUR character they're interested in...your character's options of Male/Female/Non-Binary identity

Unless woo-ing &/or making Bear love with Halsin whom is additionally Polyromantic/sexual..

Else BG3 is high fantasy-freedom to imagine->experience, including Playersexual..anything, abound

Some are more murky than others. Do they use our terms for queer people in universe?

Well, Ed Greenwood, creator of the setting, has used such terms when referring to his own creation so I think it's fair for us to do so.

I get that, but do they use the terms in universe? This is not a gotya, I see you as someone who knows far more than me. I often think of things adjacent to discussions, I think it might be an ADHD or whatever thingy for me. I haven't seen like fantasy genders/sexes/sexuality stuff and it seems fun.
