Can you not set the pass as a marker on your HUD? I was able to see where the west pass was on the map, so I just had to travel there by foot.

I finally found it, I was missing the HUGE mining town (the one with two mines). I was able to complete the entire quest, I just couldnt find the secret treasure chest.

I know you posted this a long time ago but for future reference the Hollow Stump that effectively completes the quest (removing the entry from Journal) can be MUCH more easily be found by going south of Shrine of Peryite. You'll find a passage slightly to the west of it and almost in the edge of mountain you'll find the stump.

In that bandit-mining camp there is a lock gate that requires a key to open. I killed all the bandits, and looted just about everything I could but never found a key. Would you happen to know if I'm looking in the right area (which was the camp), or is the key someplace else?

I found a bear, a wolf guarding a shrine with a chest and a dead female, a Dwarf ruin guarded by a whisp mother, and a skeleton near a backpack but no hollowed tree. Is there a certain spot I should be leaving the Shrine of Peryite from?

I found it a second time (and yes it took minimum 15 minutes). I did some screenshots to help you out in finding it, they are on my steam profile.

Okay, I was looking too far to the west. Thanks for the shots. Plus the directions to look south out of the SoP are wrong. Stand next to Kesh the Clean's alchemy table and face NE. Start walking in a straight line toward Harmugstah. Bear to the right after the second tree and the stump should be in front of you.
