Thats the same with me. I just die when I use bird, headcrabs, chestbursters and facehuggers. For some reason though the flea drone and the roller mine work just fine

I found! you just need to disable / remove addons that change the size of the player (in my case it was shrink-inator)

I think animation changers are also able to break them.
