Do be sure that the gun and reactor are both part of the same contraption, otherwise even if you link them they won't be connected due ot not being on the vehicle. To do this quickly and simply spawn a plate, put a gate on the plate, parent your reactor and your gun both to the gate along with any ammo for your gun, then you should be able to wire up and fire it, though I recommend copying and then respawning the contraption before first use to ensure things have initialized properly.
