I know this is extremely late but for anyone that wants to play with this mod and enjoy it as much as I do, you have to manually change the defines of the books; they are currently giving a weird 0.5 and so, this makes the game give you no bonuses at all.
To change this:
1) Go to your CK2 mod folder and find 'university.zip'.
2) Here, what you must do is open the .zip (with WinRAR, preferably),
3) then go to common\artifacts\books.txt and open it with a text editor like Sublime Text 3 or Notepad++ (do NOT use the regular Notepad, you can mess up things). IMPORTANT: KEEP the .zip file OPEN, DO NOT CLOSE IT.
4) Press Ctrl+H and something will pop-up,
5) In "Find:"/"Find what:" write: 0.5
6) In "Replace:"/"Replace with:" write = 2
---- [ or whatever bonus you want for the books to give ]
7) Click "Replace All"
8) Go to the menu section of the editor (upper-left) and click "File" then "Save"
9) Go to the .zip window and a pop-up will appear telling you that file "books.txt" was modified and asks if you want to update it. Click "Yes".

Now you are good to go!
