Staying there defending the settlement is not an option, as the enemy just pelts you with artillery/arrows.
I would suggest increasing the map size a little bit (if at all possible) and extending the deployment zone of the defender.
and just subscribe to all the recommended maps except for the ones you want to exclude. I'm still to test how stable it is now that the mod has so many maps, but it should only add the maps you've subscribed to in the roster. Hope that helps
1. Line-of-sight is a bit odd in many areas, like cliffs that block LOS, so you can't sit on top of them and fire over/off of them unless you have a unit positioned to see around.
2. Troop placement/movement can be weird. Some of the terrain that seems like it should be walkable is not, and there are often problems getting troops to form up properly near cliffs/buildings and in narrow spaces that seem to have more room than they apparently do.
3. AI is a bit confused. Obviously it was not designed to handle these kinds of maps, which is unfortunate. I doubt there is much that can be done about this issue, though. They do generally figure out how to deal with it, it's just a bit clumsy.
4. Deployment zones are confusing. There are a lot of overlapping zones that make it hard to tell where allied, enemy, and neutral (vanguard) zones are. On one of the maps I was even able to place some of my vanguard units right up against an enemy unit in their own deployment zone.
Still, these add some nice variety to the game and give minor towns an advantage. If the issues can be solved, these would be even better. Good job, nonetheless!
1. It puts defenders at a disadvantage which is absurd. As mentioned some cliffs make ranged units unable to fire even though enemy untis are right below them.
2. Defenders have only small piece of land filled with buildings and narrow passages to deploy their army while attackers can surround settlement and have a lot more tactical freedom. Its especially annoying and noticable when big armies fight each other.
Even with the minor changes to the terrain and whatnot there is about 3 or 4 map templates that see some minor changes. Otherwise great mod.
