Apparently I cheated to win a battle
Pretty sure I didn't, I don't even have cheat mode on.

The only thing I did was reload a save, does that count as cheating?

That's called "save scumming" and I'd consider that the default play-style but if you want to play without that leverage then play with always save on

Be prepared to grind your teeth and flip random objects, when, through no fault of your own, something happens that causes you to be taken prisoner. I don't save scum, unless it's something M&B based, that is broken...and there are plenty of those things. This is far from a perfect game, but certainly a fun one.

Game is looking for keys combinations (e.g. "heal me") and if they are pressed, player is warned 2 times (3rd is the " cheater" achievement). "Rear my horse" keys combination is near "heal me" cheat.
