Knowing when to stop while attacking is really important. You must anticipate when your supplies will start to run out.
I found that, initial assault with as many infantry divisions you can spare from other fronts and coast guard + all panzer divisions ( maybe a few in Africa) is best option. Then as supply starts to run out, start withdrawing infantry divisions to other fronts + coast guard.
Eventually there will be a point where withdrawing more divisions will put whole front at danger of losing to Soviet counter attacks. That point is where you must stop advancing and start defending.
Also don't attack in Winter. The winter modifiers makes attack very inefficient in terms of IC cost and manpower.
Especially manpower loss is very bad if you're after world conquest etc.
In winter stay defensive.
Use Panzers as "mobile reaction force" to smash attacks and if possible encircle attacking divisions by giving ground in selected places then attacking flanks (backhand blow tactic).
Use winter and other defensive times to prepare for next offensive. Prepare logistics, build railroads and (maybe) supply bases, airbases etc.
