At the exit portal of a stargate, I saw the model consisting of the stable blue portal (after the vortex animation) and orange lights "fall out" of the ring, like a separate, detached part. It appeared to do so repeatedly as I was rubber banding pretty bad at the time. Unfortunately I didn't get a screenshot, but it appeared to tilt from the bottom and fall out. The space it occupied might or might not be the same space as will kill my character when i walk into it.
The event horizon is a separate grid, with physics disabled (no collisions). The collision models also do not extend outside of the block limits (game prevents it).
I haven't had much time yet to look into it, but I should shortly.
